Makeup Addiction and Burnout, Part 7 - Destash Complete!

I've finished my very long destash. Part 1 shows the ridiculous Sterilite organizer I used to keep my makeup in. Sorry, no pictures of it with my makeup in it. I did post them in a now defunct makeup forum as well as a Facebook group page (also gone), so a few of you may have seen them. Here's the whole story, if you feel like reading. Part Two; Part Three - Destash in Progress; Part Four - More Destashing; Part Five - the Binder Again; Part Six - the Spares.

Although my original goal was to have my entire collection in one of these storage containers, I prefer separating the items. Everything is neat and easy to find.

I had the single shadows in my binder down to a total of 64, plus 56 full size spares (23 shades) and thought I was done. The next day I pushed myself a little more, and whittled the binder down to the 20 shades below, and got rid of all the spares. This leaves me with 25 single shadows, plus the two Too Faced palettes.

Did I get rid of shades I'd once loved? Yes. How do I feel after getting rid of the rest? Liberated. Free. It feels good.

If you were told you had to reduce your makeup collection and keep only half, could you do it? What about 25%? 10%? Less?

I kept roughly three percent of my eyeshadow collection. I also reduced all my other products, although I don't know by how much because I didn't count all that when I started. My guess is 75% of the rest, foundations & powders, blush, lippies, and shadow palettes (which weren't included in the original shadow count).

I'm officially off my no buy. I will remain on a low buy indefinitely.

I really appreciate all the motivational comments so many lovely ladies have made during this long process, here, on Facebook, and emails. To all the ladies who have said they couldn't do it, trust me, when you get to the point I was at, you will. Keep my tale in the back of your mind, and if you ever need motivation, I'll be happy to cheer you on.

Thanks for reading!

Makeup Addiction and Burnout, Part 6 - the spares

I've been working on the three drawer organizer with all my spares.

I've been going through the "working on it" drawer since I did a binder destash in early April. I'll wear the corresponding sample so I don't have to open any of these full sizes. I try to wear one or two shades each day and make a decision. Sometimes I know right away, other times I'll decide at the end of the day.

Here's the sell pile - 65!

Here's the "I'm still working on it" pile - 32

Several of these shades look quite similar, but these are all different shades. Or at least they have different names, anyway.

And here's the keep pile, 89, but there's multiple jars of the same shades.
DSC05628

I should have all the "working on it" shades finished by the end of the month. Then I'll go through the keep pile again and keep whittling away. I don't have any particular number in mind, but would like to get it down so all my shadows fit in one drawer. Then I'll likely pour any full sizes in baggies to go into the binder for space purposes, but that's not set in stone either.

Thanks for looking!  Part 7 is here.

World Goth Day Look

I wanted to do a slightly darker look for World Goth Day, so I went with a white/silvery/black gradient eye. I've had little sleep the past couple of days, so yes, I look tired because I am. The weather was alternating between rain and sudden bursts of sunshine, which made my bangs all frizzy.

I had red lips at work, Fyrinnae's Sweetest Poison, but decided to do a purple lip for the pictures.

I didn't do much to celebrate the day, just talked to about 30 friends before I even left for work in the morning! I told them I was really beat and just wanted to try and get some sleep tonight.

I mentioned it was World Goth Day to my coworkers and explained that's why I was all dressed up in a Heavy Red netting skirt and flowy shirt with bell sleeves. My boss looked at me and said I didn't look any different than any other day. I guess they're all used to me. An older female customer even complimented my perfume (BPAL's Black Rose) which was nice.

I did a look for today but don't think I'll get to post it before day's end, so a lovely purple rose instead.

Cut & Recolor

Another cut and recolor last week!

This is slept on, so a bit messy, but still far less than my usual wreck.

My hair is growing but it never seems to grow fast enough when I keep getting it trimmed. I feel like there's only a few more inches on the left side of my head to go before all the damage from my hair disaster. Once it's all gone, I'll feel better about going longer in between cuts.
